Munch Goes to S&D Polish Deli
"As a pure Heinz 57 Pittsburgher, Munch claims no favorites among ethnic dishes, except for one: more. And that's exactly what this Baghead-American got at the S&D Polish Deli in the Strip District." Read more
Best Pierogi in Pittsburgh by Munchies 2009!
If you're from here or have been here for more than oh, say, five minutes, you've indulged in the Eastern European excellence of a pierogie, and while trying to pick the best in Pittsburgh is akin to picking a favorite star in the sky, the fresh-made ones at (2204 Penn Ave., Strip District, 412-281-2906) made by Polish emigres are nothing short of a revelation. And let's not even begin with the Leczo, Haluski or Borscht. Your Polish gram would say Na Zdrowie!" Read moreevah!
Urban Spoon: 100% positive reviews!
"Out exploring the Strip District with my MIL and 5 year old son. My Urbanspoon App suggested S&Ds. Couldn't agree more with the 96% of likes! My potato and cheese pierogi were unbelievable-plump, and delicious! My MIL, a native of Pittsburgh of Eastern European descent, raved about her kielbasa sandwich and my 5 yr-old even liked his noodles until he discovered the sauerkraut but that has nothing to do with the food. Highly recommend!" Read more
Best of the Burgh 2010 “Best Polish Deli” Award
"The S&D Polish Deli in the Strip District might also be the only Polish Deli in the city. But once you try the deli's homemade bigos (hunter’s stew), pierogies and stuffed cabbage, you'll realize we only need one if it’s this good. The food is homestyle and generous. But what really makes me want to go back is the warmth of the owners. They really seem glad that you came to visit. After sampling their prepared foods (all of which you can take home as well), you can stock up on special sausages, hams and bacons. My favorite is Weselna, the double-smoked wedding sausage. The deli carries an extensive line of authentic Polish products, including delectable fruit syrups, jams, candies, teas, soups, spices and special ingredients for Polish cooking." Read more
Yellow Boat Great reviews
"I am so thrilled there is real Polish deli nearby. The Potato pancakes are just like grandmas. Love the Pierogi, they are thin and taste so good, I could taste the potato, really good overall flavor. I always take home some some dried smoked sausages, they are fresh and full of flavor. Love this place!" Read more
Pittsburgh Magazine about our Kielbasa
"S&D has some of the greatest sausages in the city—from best-selling kielbasa to more adventurous choices like headcheese. On the pierogie front, S&D offers more than a dozen different dumplings made from imported low-gluten flour and Polish cheese. While basic potato-and-cheese is available, expand your repertoire with mushroom-and-sauerkraut or spinach-and-meat for dinner, followed by plum or cherry pierogies dressed with sour cream. S&D also offers imported jams, blintzes, syrups, teas, pralines and chocolates." Read more

"The S&D Polish Deli, owned by Dorota and Slawomir Pyszkowski, opened in December of 2008 but is already a mainstay of the Strip. The store sells an abundance of Polish foods, though it is especially revered for its Polish sausages, imported cheeses, halushki, and homemade pierogies." Read more
April 2011 – our Groupon Deal brought us a great dinner crowd
"S&D's imported recipes and ingredients earned the Polish émigré-owned store the title of 2010's Best Polsich Deli in Pittsburgh magazine. Hungry patrons chomp into quartets of award-winning pierogies, filled crescent-shaped pastries lightly fried in butter and made with extra-fluffy Eastern European flour. Potatoes, cabbage, spinach, meat, forest-grown mushrooms, and Polish farmers’ cheese are some of the options for filling, as well as fruit for those with sweet teeth." Read more

"The 1500 square-foot store offers hard to find Polish products like fresh sauerkraut, sausages, European juices and chocolates and the deli offers hot lunch from 11am-2pm and seats about 20. Lunch offerings include Hunter’s Stew made with white cabbage, sauerkraut and kielbasa, pork stew with dumplings, halushki, stuffed cabbage, and of course pierogies. For dessert, try crepes with fresh farmers cheese, yum." Read more

"If you’re in the mood for a pierogi or some stuffed cabbage, S&D Polish Deli and Food Store is the place for you. There’s a deli counter and restaurant window (complete with plastic trays). The ambiance isn’t romantic, but the food is authentic and delicious. In addition to the house-made specialties they also have a huge selection of Polish supermarket goods, even down to the candy bars." Read more
CBS Pittsburg located us among the best ethnic grocery stores in the city
"S&D’s Polish Deli is regionally famous for its kielbasa, smoked sausage, deli sausage and ham. The sausage selection, which includes everything from duck to head cheese, is probably best known for the Weselna sausage. It’s a double-smoked, wedding-style sausage that helped make S&D Pittsburgh Magazine’s choice for Best Polish Deli of 2010. S&D is much more than a deli, and for many shoppers it is the pierogis, crepes, blintzes and dumplings that keep them coming back. The deli provides catering for parties and events, gift baskets, a daily lunch bar and soups and stews, all steeped in the wonderful tradition of Polish food." Read more
